An In-Depth Istikhlafi (Vicegerency) Reading on the Impossibility of the Algorithmic System's Self-Deconstruction, and Its Dialogue with the Achievement Society, Surveillance Capitalism, and the Lacanian Big Other A Comparative Study within the Project of Istikhlafi (Vicegerency) Psychology Prepared by: Abd al-Salam al-Zaraa zaraapsychology.com 1447 AH / 2026 CE   Table of Contents Methodological Introduction This study undertakes an in-depth critical interrogation of one of the theses of Istikhlafi (Vicegerency) Psychology — namely, the impossibility of artificial intelligence deconstructing itself from within its own system, set against the human being, who possesses a transcendent frame of reference enabling emancipation from algorithmic mechanism. The aim of this study is not to summarize that thesis, but to interrogate it from three angles it did not explicitly engage: an epistemological angle (the relation of the argument to Gödel's two incompleteness theorems), a socio-critical angle (its intersection with the concept of the “achievement society” in the work of the German-Korean philosopher Byung-Chul Han, and with Shoshana Zuboff’s “surveillance capitalism”), and a psychoanalytic angle (a reading of the “hidden architecture of consciousness” as the algorithm’s substitution for the big Other of Lacanian psychoanalysis). The study proceeds from the methodological premise that the strength of the Istikhlafi framework lies not in its self-sufficiency within its own vocabulary, but in its capacity to absorb the deepest insights produced by contemporary Western critical philosophy and to transcend them from the standpoint of a transcendent frame of reference. Every comparison drawn here is therefore not a mere illustrative juxtaposition, but an attempt to show that what Western critical philosophy describes as a crisis without exit finds, in Istikhlaf (Vicegerency), both an explanation of its deep causes and a practical way out. “Indeed, I will make upon the earth a vicegerent (khalīfah).” Sūrat al-Baqarah, verse 30
